The Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment Service (CPAS) at Menninger works with referring physicians during the patient’s stay to ensure seamless coordinated care and the best chance for
successful treatment.
Before treatment: When
referring a patient to Menninger, the referring clinician works closely with an Admissions coordinator to get an accurate picture of the patient’s previous history. This information is a valuable component of planning treatment.
During treatment: Communication with the referring professional(s) includes obtaining further history, clarifying goals and discussing options for treatment after discharge from CPAS.
After treatment: If the patient authorizes it in writing, a hospitalization summary is provided to the referring professional after discharge. About 40 percent of CPAS patients are referred back to their referring professionals, while others are referred for treatment at a more intensive level of care.
