Referring Physicians

The Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment Service (CPAS) at Menninger works with referring physicians during the patient’s stay to ensure seamless coordinated care and the best chance for successful treatment.
 
Before treatment: When referring a patient to Menninger, the referring clinician works closely with an Admissions coordinator to get an accurate picture of the patient’s previous history. This information is a valuable component of planning treatment.
 
During treatment: Communication with the referring professional(s) includes obtaining further history, clarifying goals and discussing options for treatment after discharge from CPAS.
 
After treatment: If the patient authorizes it in writing, a hospitalization summary is provided to the referring professional after discharge. About 40 percent of CPAS patients are referred back to their referring professionals, while others are referred for treatment at a more intensive level of care.
