James Flack, MD

Dr. Flack is a board-certified adult psychiatrist. He provides diagnostic expertise in the area of adult psychiatric disorders and addiction. Along with the interdisciplinary assessment team, he focuses on comprehensive assessment and stabilization of patients' symptoms in a structured, inpatient setting. In his dual role as director for Admissions, Dr. Flack assists in the process of patient evaluation for admission to all of the specialty programs at Menninger.

Before joining Menninger in April 2008, Dr. Flack worked closely with Menninger as the director of Psychiatric Services for The Methodist Hospital, collaborating with Menninger staff to ensure smooth patient transfers between Menninger and Methodist.

Dr. Flack spent 12 years at Baylor College of Medicine as an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences while concurrently serving as the director of Psychiatric Services for The Methodist Hospital from July 1994 to April 2006. Most recently, he was associate chairman of the Department of Psychiatry for Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Texas A&M College of Medicine. Among his specialty areas are acute psychiatric diagnosis and management along with chemical dependency and substance abuse disorders.

Dr. Flack received his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed psychiatry residencies at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, and Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.

In addition to his diagnostic expertise and helping to educate many students on their way to becoming psychiatrists, Dr. Flack has been an advisor on several hospital committees including Substance Abuse Assistance Council and Residency Training at Baylor College of Medicine and Quality Management at The Methodist Hospital.
